Our little baby boy is already five months old. It's so hard to believe.
I can't believe it's already March and five months have passed since that sweet little boy came into our lives. It's amazing to see how much change has occured in these past five months. He has gone from being this teeny little helpless baby, to growing into a chunky little butterball who is constantly exploring, babbling, smiling, and lfiritng with everyone around him. It's almost as if he knows he's a handsome little bugger. He has this silly bashful smile where he puts his chin to his chest and gives you the sweetest smile in the world!
Since we got back from Louisiana in mid February, Tommy has been sleeping in his big boy crib all by himself in his very own room. (Just for the record...it was daddy who was hesitant to leave him in his crib in his own room.) I had put him to bed in his crib two nights before we left for Louisiana, because I wasn't feeling good, and didn't want him to get sick sleeping in the pack and play next to me. I had JUST dozed off and was sleeping peacefully when Rich came upstairs, turned on our bedroom light and said loudly, "You're just going to let Tommy sleep in that room all alone??!!??") I said, "yes." After about a 30 second moment of silence, I told Rich to go get him and wrap him in his blanket if he wasn't happy about him sleeping alone. I figured Rich would have just left him in his crib and gone to bed, but no, about a minute later, I hear him fumbling around, swaddling Tommy, and putting him in the pack and play next to our bed. So, it was Rich who was delaying the big move from our room to Tommy's own room! Keep in mind that we have 2 monitors on Tommy in his own room. One monitor has a sound and color TV pciture of his room/crib. The second monitor is a movement monitor that sounds an alarm if the baby doesn't make any move (breathing included) within 20 seconds. So, Tommy is actually safer in his own room. Oh well, i just thought that was sweet...daddy was sooo concerned about his little boy!
A few weeks ago, the alarm actually went off in the middle of the night. I got up and started to walk to his room and my knees went weak, I almost threw up, and passed out. Turns out, he had just rolled off the movement monitoring pad. He was fine. I was in the worst shape of anyone. But, I'd rather have a flase alarm than no alarm at all if there were to be a problem!
Tommy is also eating sweet potatoes and loving them! I mix them in with his cereal, and he seems to enjoy them. One drawback to sweet potatoes, or any colored food....the baby's spit up is then that color. I realized this sitting in church as I wiped orange spit up off his chin. Thank God for baby wipes.
So, that's what has been happening in Tommyland. He's holding his own bottle more and more...but not ALL the time. He loves to try to sit up and actually grunts while trying to sit up. He is laughing more and more and loves to scream. I mimic his scream back at him sometimes and he looks at me like, "What the hell was that for?"
He is truly a bundle of joy. Lately, we like to play "airplane" where Tommy blastoffs on the count of three and lands with a "bonk." (he giggles) We read about 3-4 baby books a day. Tommy sits on my lap and listens intently and desperately tries to chew each book. He's a very engaged learner.
Stay tuned for more pics to come!
