Six Months Old

Six months ago our precious baby boy entered our world! He was a tiny little bundle that we had hoped, prayed, and waited for. He was perfect in every sense and made us look at our lives in an entirely different way. Tommy certainly was the answer to many prayers and the beginning of a new life for all of us.

Today, Tommy is a six month old bundle of bliss. He smiles, laughs, plays with you, watches you, understands what you're doing, and feels so good to snuggle with. He has become quite a character. He still has his bashful smile, but now he also smiles when he sees a familiar face enter the room, and throws out a laugh deep from that hearty little belly of his.

Since I have last updated, we have been on quite an adventure with Mr. Tommy. First and foremost was the birth of his cousin, Emily Alexis. We flew down to Louisiana to meet Emily and the Tara and MAtt over my spring break. It was so much fun to have the two babies together. I'm excited to see Emily getting bigger and more playful and I think it will be an absolute hoot to see them play together.

While we were in Louisiana, we went to a drive through safari park (I about soiled myself.) I was in the backseat squished between two car seats, and these HUGE animals (bulls, buffalo, ostrich, deer, pigs, llamas, zebras, etc.) come RIGHT up to your window. All I kept thinking was, "One kick...and we're toast." Turns out, those animals are so used to people and cars, they were quite friendly...but VERY scary at first. Especially when you're sitting between your infant son and newborn niece. I was in 100% protective mommy mode. Not too mention there were 4 pound wasps flying all over the place.

We also took a trip to the Monroe Zoo, and Tommy got to see a giraffe and a peacock before he fell asleep and slept through the rest of the adventure. It was a really nice zoo; not too crowded, very peaceful(until a 4 pound wasp zips past you), and a nice walk in the park.

Other than those big adventures, we took it easy and helped out with Emily and enjoyed our visit. We took Tommy and Emily for some portraits together in coordinating outfits, which turned out soooo cute.

So, Tommy enjoyed another trip to Louisiana. He has now taken off and landed on a plane 10 times. He's quite the world traveler! This time we even flew on a prop plane! It was nowhere near as scary as I had envisioned it!

After we were back from Louisiana, it was time for Tommy's 6 month check up and vaccinations. Rich had a bad cold at the time, and I think Tommy had picked up a touch of it. Then he got his shots, and I think that really made things worse. For the next week, Tommy vommitted, ran a fever of 104, and cried NONSTOP for FOUR DAYS. Poor, poor baby! We ended up in the hospital for blood work, and everything checked out fine. We think Tommy had the beginning stages of an ear infection when he got his shots, but it wasn't full-blown yet, so the doctor didn't see it as clearly, and his sohts made everything worse. Plus, he was in the beginning stages of 2 teeth popping through, so combine all of that, and you can see why Tommy was one miserable baby for a week!

Rest assured, he's much better now. He's got a little cough...but doing MUCH better. He went 4 days without smiling or giggling, and it was heartbreaking. But now he's happy again, smiling, giggling, playing, and eating and pooping like it's going out of style. He's back to being Tommy!

So, I have mentioned his teeth. They're not all the way through yet, but he has two little spikes sticking out. The are on his bottom gum. He should look really cute and hysterical with his teeth and hair! He's such a character!

So, he's had quite an eventful 6th month of his little life. He is everything I ever dreamed about. It's never the big moments that make up a person's life; it's all the little things. And these little things are the things I look forward to everyday. The way he sneezes and blows sweet potatotes across the room when I feed him, splashing in his ducky tub during bathtime, grabbing hold of Winnie's beard and laughing (Winnie was a champ and just stood there taking it), these are the things that I dreamed about, and these are the things that make being a mommy to Tommy so much fun!

Can you believe in just 6 more months, we'll be celebrating his first birthday??

...No. No, I cannot believe that he's on his way to one year. Nope. Mmm-mmmm. (Think Mary and Ho Flo as you read that.)

P.S. Four-pound wasps... I would have been on the next flight home.
